The Busted Venn Diagram

Partisan politics in this country has reached a breaking point. Any semblance of cooperation is gone and there is no longer a common space for good-faith debate. Since our leaders seem… let’s say, disinclined to take action on fixing the current two-party system, it falls to us as citizens to rebuild the American center from the ground up.

Radical Centrism

The Lazy Aphorist is an experiment in a rhetorical style that seeks above all to repair the gaping hole in the middle of the American political system. It’s an experiment to see if it’s still plausible to construct a centrist position that can offer criticism to both the right and the left, such that the criticism will be received, considered, and maybe — just maybe — acted on. It’s not an experiment to get ‘leftists’ and ‘rightists’ talking to each other, whatever that means. Even that much is probably too ambitious. Instead, the goal is only to occupy a space in the middle from which it is possible to speak and be understood by both sides of the American divide. That humble, tenuous objective is only the first step on a long road, one that may ultimately lead to reinstating a consensus-based political system.

… Or not. Probably not. I usually don’t know what I’m talking about. But we’ll see where it takes us. Honestly, the goal is just to be another voice in the crowd. Hopefully, a better voice, but I’ll let others be the judge of that.

This is a movement. Current membership: one. But we’re taking applications.
